The moon is actually moving away from earth at a rate of 1.5 inches per year.

The surface area of the moon is 14,658,000 square miles or 9.4 billion acres.

Only about 59 percent of the moon's surface is visible to us here on earth.

The moon is not round, but egg shaped with the large end pointed towards earth.

The earth rotates about 1000 mph. By comparison, the moon rotates about 10 mph

I just returned from the pool a bit ago, the water was so warm, not very appealing to me. But I wasn't really swimming anyway, just floating. I went to the doctor last Saturday with double ear infections. So I have been at home and tonight I stayed above the water. The moon was very visible, but with quite a bit of haze. However, we have a 50 - 60 % chance of rain tomorrow and tomorrow night so that is expected. It was still so nice to see the moon again. It looked quite a bit like this one ... just with more haze.

Has everyone that is able gone out and looked up into the night sky and gazed upon the stars this evening? I just got back from the pool and the stars were absolutely gorgeous!

I awoke to rain about 5:30 this morning. I even got to go out on the porch to retrieve an item that was in the shower. It was so nice. It was cool and wonderfully refreshing. It has been so hot here with the heat index up around 105 degrees or so and today's high is 97 +. But just for those few moments I felt the cool drops on my skin ... so wet and so welcome. I felt blessed to have been awake in time to experience this nurturing experience, while everyone else was still sleeping deeply. Small blessings are sometimes the best and the most personal.
